Frequently
Asked Questions about the BANDHOPPER Antenna |
|
|
| What is the total length of the BANDHOPPER? How big is it? The
BANDHOPPER is 9 ft. in length.UP |
| How much
does it weigh? 6.25 lbs.UP |
| Does
it get longer with frequency change? Nope! It is always 9 ft. in length.UP |
| Will
it fit my female threaded mobile mount? Yep.UP |
| Can I
use a quick detach fitting on the base, garage door clearance? No, it will weaken the
base attachment area and structural integrity, we suggest either unscrewing entire
antenna, 12 seconds, or a quick detach fitting where the whip attaches.UP |
| Do
I have to use your 6 conductor cable? No, rotor cable works fine, #22 wire.UP |
| Why
is it so expensive? What would you pay for a hand made car? After 5 years I am
still trying to find people to build pieces for me! Mass production is but a dream.UP |
| Why
don't you advertise? The low production rate and corresponding revenues does not allow
advertising. Hopefully the internet will allow a wider dissemination and actual owner
pictures from our scrapbook. We spend an average $2.30 for the present info pac so the
'Net' may be a less costly way to advertise.UP |
| Are
the Radio Shack parts you use of questionable quality? The relays are Potter
Brumfield, the connectors are Molex, and the other parts are not quality dependent,
meaning there is no way you will ever burn out the 50 ohm/10watt resistor. Diodes are 50
volt rating, etc. We have over specified the components to provide for long life time. The
aluminum box could be changed to a waterproof one but the price would be prohibitive. The
reason for using Radio Shack is that the home constructor can find them easily. Every
major town has one. I can get better pricing from Jameco, Digi-key, Mouser, etc, however
most of you do not have commercial accounts with them. Hence the parts list for Radio
Shack.UP |
| How
about a 160 to 10 meter version? The market is too limited to support an entirely new
different sized antenna. Remember it takes twice the inductance to get to 160 meters from
80. The present 160 meter add on coil will get you there and a lot cheaper.UP |
| How
about 6, 2 meters? A couple of folks have found 'hot' spots where you can load them up
but I don't advertise it as I consider it a curious novelty and not something it was
designed for.UP |
